Innovative Initiatives and Partnerships
FEC is very pleased to have been successful recently in securing 1.48 million dollars from DEEWR to contribute to the facilities upgrade of Fremantle's Princess May Building (the home of FEC).
Key stakeholders including the City of Fremantle, DPI, National Trust, Heritage Council and FEC will work collaboratively to conserve and preserve this magnificent heritage building.
This project involves upgrading, including some construction and maintenance of the Princess May building to maximise the operational capacity for FEC to expand it's role as a Community Vocational Education and Training Provider, facilitating accredited pathways to re-skill and up-skill adults from diverse community groups, that will lead to measurable employment outcomes.
In consultation/collaboration with the building owners, the aim of this project is to modernise, revitalise and expand the facilities from which FEC currently operates as a NFP Community VET Provider. This involves:
- Refurbish the roof to eliminate water ingress
- Install solar panels and roof insulation to improve building environment performance
- Construct internal pre-fabrication walls to create additional training rooms
- Paint internal walls, fix floor covering and access corridors to modernise the look and feel of the practice environment
- Install fixed shelving in classrooms to display learning resources
- Improve access into the building and training rooms
- Erect internal and external signage 8. Upgrade internal lighting and install training room air conditioning
- Install improved Information Technology solutions
- Refurbish toilet facilities for disabled access
- Construct a staff/student recreation room and kitchen
- Upgrade internal security systems
- Building maintenance
- Erect external shelters, rainwater tanks, connect grey water recycling system and erect outdoor security lighting
- Procure training/communication equipment including: furniture, (special need equipment), computers, electronic data display panels, overhead projectors, TV, DVD, sound equipment, white-boards and display of reference materials/resources.
